About the Competition

Goal: To promote English language proficiency and creative thinking in Georgian middle and high school students using a two-tiered English language writing and speaking competition.

Background: English language competitions have previously been held in Georgia in Baghdati and Lanchkuti. These competitions consisted of writing and speaking events for students in grades 6 through 12. The students had one hour in which to write an original essay from a prompt. From there they moved on to a 5-minute verbal conversation in which the interviewer asks progressively more difficult questions to ascertain the competitor's English proficiency. These competitions started and ended at the local level. The Georgian English Language Competition will be held at the local, regional and national levels.
